Microsoft Contributed twenty thousand lines code for the Linux kernel in the Open source community. Also the company is contributing under the same free software license even after the controversial remarks of the company CEO Steve Ballmer once gave in his speech.
The Microsoft is contributed the code for the enhancement of the performance of drivers of Linux when virtualised on Windows Server 2008 Hyper V.They were totally responsible for the testing and validating of the driver components contributed in the first release under the GNU General Public License ver 2.0.
In questioning with Tom Hanrahan, director of the Microsoft’s Open Source Technology Center, that why this decision is taken to join with the free software contribution they said
“If you want to participate in the community, if you want your code to be with that community, you have to engage with them in the way they work, and they work under GPLv2″
Basically this code will help the different of flavors of Linux to run on the Microsoft Hyper V Technology for Windows Server 2008. Virtualization is the Technology which makes possible to run different operating system on the same server, and this reduces the hardware implementation cost. Well it is a great move in the business because it is a need for the users.
